Start Your Career in Conservation – Certificate II (AHC21024)
If you love working outdoors and want to make a difference, this nationally recognised qualification gives you the skills to start a career in land and conservation management. You’ll gain experience in:
Caring for native plants and ecosystems
Controlling weeds, pests and plant diseases
Propogating and planting trees and shrubs
Caring for nursery plants
Beekeeping and biosecurity
Working safely and sustainably outdoors
This course prepares you for work with local councils, national parks, environmental organisations, or land care groups. Alternatively, utilise this course as your first step toward further study in conservation, land management, or environmental science.

Course Structure
You’ll complete 15 nationally recognised units designed to give you real, job-ready skills – not just theory.
Here’s what that looks like in practice:
Work Safe. Work Smart.
Learn how to identify hazards, follow workplace health and safety procedures, and work sustainably in real-world environments. You’ll also understand biosecurity basics, including how to inspect and clean machinery and tools to prevent the spread of pests and diseases.
Plants, Soil & Nursery Skills
Get hands-on with propagation, plant care and nursery operations. You’ll learn how to:

Maintain and care for nursery plants

Propagate new plants
-
Identify common plant species (including weeds)

Collect and test soil and growing media
-
Prune shrubs and small trees properly
These are the foundational skills used across conservation, landscaping and land management roles.
Planting & Land Management
Learn how to manually plant trees and shrubs, protect trees during construction works, and support revegetation projects. You’ll build confidence working in natural areas, parks and restoration sites.
Weeds, Pests & Chemical Use
Understand how to recognise weeds, plant pests and diseases and how to apply treatments safely under supervision. You’ll be trained in responsible chemical handling aligned with industry standards.
Beekeeping Foundations
You’ll also complete practical beekeeping units, including opening and reassembling a hive and using a smoker correctly, building awareness of pollination, biodiversity and ecosystem health.

Concession fee: $586.53

Indicative Course Fees – Private Fee Paying Places
Total Course Fee (Private): $2,250
Students are invoiced $150 per unit at the time of unit enrolment.
This staged invoicing approach allows payments to align with your training progression.

- Additional charges such as resource fees may apply as per the VET Fees and Charges Policy.

Course Eligibility – enrolling under the “Participation – Work Readiness Program”
To enrol in the AHC21024 under the Participation – Work Readiness Program, learners must meet the following eligibility criteria:

You are looking to build hands-on skills in a practical, supportive environment
