Participants will engage in a variety of tasks, including routine office procedures, clerical duties, administrative functions, and operational activities. This qualification also focuses on enhancing decision-making, judgment, and initiative in the workplace. In some cases, participants may provide technical advice and support to team members, further building their professional competencies.

Access to a working office environment or a simulated office setup is essential, allowing students to apply their knowledge in a practical, hands-on setting.

This program offers a well-rounded foundation for those aiming to succeed in a variety of business services roles.

A New Worker Traineeship is an opportunity for individuals who are new to their role to develop valuable skills, gain on-the-job experience, and work towards a nationally recognised qualification.

This program is developed to help people step confidently into a new career or industry, with training that combines practical workplace learning and structured study. It’s ideal for those who are just starting out in full-time or part-time employment and want to grow their knowledge and capabilities while earning a living.

Study and Work Commitments

 

As a trainee, you’ll step into a structured program that balances hands-on work with dedicated training, all designed to help you achieve a nationally recognised qualification.

Your on-the-job training will be customised to the tasks and responsibilities of your position, ensuring that every moment contributes to your development. Employment hours will be as outlined in your employment contract, providing clear expectations around your working commitments.

Off-the-job training complements this practical experience. You’ll work with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), attending either an online or face-to-face session one day per week that builds your knowledge and expertise. The training is flexible, with the schedule and format negotiated between you, your employer, and us. This will be detailed in your formal Training Contract and Training Plan, making sure that business needs are met while you stay on track with your studies.

BSBCRT311 Apply critical thinking skills in a team environment

This unit describes skills and knowledge required to apply critical thinking skills to generate solutions to workplace problems in a team environment. The unit applies to individuals who are required to develop and extend their critical and creative thinking skills to different issues and situations. These individuals apply a range of problem solving, evaluation and analytical skills resolve workplace issues within a team context. 

PERFORMANCE EVIDENCE:  

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to generate and present solutions to a workplace problem on at least TWO occasions. 

BSBPEF201 Support personal wellbeing in the workplace

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to advocate for and feel empowered about personal wellbeing in the workplace. It involves developing and applying basic knowledge of factors that may influence wellbeing, both positively and negatively. The unit applies to those in a range of industry and workplace contexts, who work under direct supervision. It may also apply to learners who are preparing to enter the workforce. 

PERFORMANCE EVIDENCE:  

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to: 

  • develop a plan for communication with supervisor  
  • identify and access one formal and one informal wellbeing resource. 
BSBSUS211 Participate in sustainable work practices

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to measure, support and find opportunities to improve the sustainability of work practices. The unit applies to individuals, working under supervision or guidance, who are required to follow workplace procedures and instructions. These individuals work in an environmentally sustainable manner within scope of competency, authority and own level of responsibility.  

PERFORMANCE EVIDENCE:  

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to participate in at least THREE sustainable work practices.

BSBTWK301 Use inclusive work practices

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to recognise and interact productively with diverse groups of individuals in the workplace. It covers responding to and working effectively with individual differences that might be encountered during the course of work. The unit applies to individuals who work in a variety of contexts where they will be expected to interact with diverse groups of individuals. They may also provide some leadership and guidance to others and have some limited responsibility for the output of others. 

PERFORMANCE EVIDENCE:  

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to: 

  • use at least TWO different inclusive work practices 
  • work with a diverse group of individuals to achieve work outcomes on at least TWO occasions.  
BSBWHS311 Assist with maintaining workplace safety

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to assist with implementing and monitoring an organisation’s work health and safety (WHS) policies, procedures and programs as part of a small work team. The unit applies to individuals who have roles in assisting with maintaining workplace safety in an organisation. Individuals closely monitor aspects of work associated with the safe delivery of products and services, and they contribute to influencing safety in the workplace. 

 

PERFORMANCE EVIDENCE:  

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, and to assist with implementing and monitoring at least THREE different organisational work health and safety (WHS) policies or procedures into a work team’s processes. 

BSBXCM301 Engage in workplace communication

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to assist with implementing and monitoring an organisation’s work health and safety (WHS) policies, procedures and programs as part of a small work team. The unit applies to individuals who have roles in assisting with maintaining workplace safety in an organisation. Individuals closely monitor aspects of work associated with the safe delivery of products and services, and they contribute to influencing safety in the workplace. 

 

PERFORMANCE EVIDENCE:  

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, and to assist with implementing and monitoring at least THREE different organisational work health and safety (WHS) policies or procedures into a work team’s processes. 

BSBTEC201 Use business software applications

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to select and use software and organise electronic information and data. The unit applies to those who use a limited range of practical skills with a fundamental knowledge of equipment use and the organisation of data in a defined context, under direct supervision or with limited individual responsibility 

PERFORMANCE EVIDENCE:  

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to: 

  • select and use at least THREE business software applications on two occasions each. 

 

BSBWRT311 Write simple documents

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to plan, draft and finalise a simple document.  

The unit applies to individuals who administer a broad range of competencies in various work contexts and may exercise some discretion and judgement to produce a range of simple documents. 

 

PERFORMANCE EVIDENCE:  

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to plan, draft and finalise THREE different simple documents that accurately convey the required basic information in a format suitable for the intended audience and purpose according to organisational policies and procedures for document production.

BSBPEF301 Organise personal work priorities

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to organise personal work schedules, to monitor and obtain feedback on work performance and to maintain required levels of competence. The unit applies to individuals who exercise discretion and judgement and apply a broad range of competencies in various work contexts. 

 

PERFORMANCE EVIDENCE:  

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to gather, assess, organise and distribute THREE pieces of workplace information.

BSBINS202 Handle receipt and dispatch information

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to receive and distribute incoming information, and to collect and despatch outgoing information using both digital and non-digital methods.  

  

PERFORMANCE EVIDENCE:  

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to: 

  • receive and distribute incoming information according to organisational policies and procedures, on at least two occasions 
  • despatch and register outgoing information according to organisational policies and procedures, on at least two occasions. 
BSBPUR301 Purchase goods and services

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to determine purchasing requirements and make and receive purchases. It applies to individuals who work under a level of supervision and who conduct low risk, low expenditure purchasing for an organisation using established and documented purchasing strategies. Individuals may be working in a small organisation with general responsibility for conducting purchasing within an organisation, or they may be a purchasing specialist working in a large organisation. Some judgement may be required to make decisions about purchasing strategies. 

 

PERFORMANCE EVIDENCE:  

Evidence of the ability to: 

  • obtain quotes from prospective suppliers 
  • select appropriate purchasing methods 
  • receive, check and document purchases. 
BSBINS302 Organise workplace information

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to receive, collect, organise and apply workplace information in the context of an organisation’s work processes, record managing and knowledge management systems. The unit applies to those who perform a defined range of skilled operations in various work contexts. They may exercise discretion and judgement using appropriate knowledge of information management to provide technical advice and support to a team. 

 

PERFORMANCE EVIDENCE:  

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to gather, assess, organise and distribute THREE pieces of workplace information. 

SIRXMKT001 Support marketing and promotional activities

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to support the implementation of marking and promotional activities. It applies to individuals working in frontline sales roles in a diverse range of industry sectors and business contexts. They operate with some independence under general supervision and guidance from others, and within established organisational policies and procedures.  

 

PERFORMANCE EVIDENCE:  

Evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit in the context of the job role, and: 

  • support the implementation of one marketing or promotional activity by: 
    • accessing organisational marketing plan and determining activity requirements and own responsibilities 
    • displaying and maintaining activity resourcing and materials
    • communicating activities to customers.

The enrolment process is an essential step to ensure that Yanchep Institute has all the necessary information, including your Unique Student Identifier (USI), for reporting student participation and outcomes in Vocational Education and Training.

Once you complete and submit your enrolment form, it will be forwarded to Yanchep Institute’s Training Manager for processing. Your application status will then be confirmed and communicated to you.
